Featured Rink: Porrazzo Arena – East Boston, MA

The Porrazzo Skating Arena, named after First Lieutenant Louis E. Porrazzo, is a Commonwealth of Massachusetts public ice skating facility overseen by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). The rink was built in the 1968 and FMC took over management in 2005.

Inside the arena includes six team locker rooms, facilities for birthday parties, a spacious lobby, skate rentals, and a snack bar.

The rink is home to many local programs and high school teams including the Middlesex Icemen, the Boston Junior Eagles, East Boston High school, Suffolk University Women’s team, the East Boston Men’s Hockey League (EBMHL), and Beantown Broomball.

Arena Manager, Mark Squillacioti, is in his 11th year with FMC. Before landing in East Boston, Mark worked in West Roxbury’s Jim Roche Arena and Cambridge’s Simoni Skating Rink, as well as bouncing around various other arenas during the summer to work on maintenance projects. One of Mark’s favorite parts of the job is building business and recruiting new organizations.

One fun fact about Porrazzo is that the rink was the set of Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron’s Geico commercial. Porrazzo has also hosted other Bruins like captain Zdeno Chara and left winger Brad Marchand, as well as Olympian Ashley Wagner. Be sure to check out the pictures Mark has on the wall to see some other famous people!

Porrazzo offers plenty to do year round. During the fall and winter, catch an EBMHL game and in the summer come to their annual Bash on the Beach. In August, check out the Adaptive Skating Cookout.

On Saturdays throughout the year, sign up for one of our Learn to Skate programs to get introduced to the ice in a fun and comfortable learning environment.

With a knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff, lots of classes, and clean environment with a great view, Porrazzo Arena is a great place to have fun!
