Featured Rink: Fitzpatrick Arena – Holyoke, MA
The Henry J. Fitzpatrick Skating Arena is a Commonwealth of Massachusetts public ice skating facility overseen by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). The rink was founded in 1972, with star Bruins defenseman, Bobby Orr, in attendance for opening day. FMC began managing the rink in 2002.
The arena features a heated conference room, facilities for birthday parties, four locker rooms, a spacious lobby, and a snack bar, as well as a few arcade games.
The rink is utilized by many local teams including Chicopee Comprehensive High School, South Hadley High School, Mount Holyoke College, Amherst Youth Hockey, Pioneer Valley Youth Hockey Association, and the Nonotuck Valley Hockey Association.
Jake Babineau, who is in his fourth month at Fitzpatrick, previously worked at Smead Arena in Springfield for three and a half years. Jake and his staff work hard each and every day keeping the rink clean and safe for all users.
If you want to learn how to play hockey, or just come to skate, Fitzpatrick offers plenty to do. On Friday nights, check out our Adult Learn to Play followed by Organized Pick Up. On Saturdays, sign up for Thunderbirds Hockey 101 and learn fundamental hockey skills. Monday through Saturday be sure to join us for a public skating session or check out special events, such as the Adaptive Skating hour, put on by the DCR’s Universal Access Program.
A friendly staff, clean environment, and fun atmosphere makes Fitzpatrick Arena a great place to spend your time!
