47th Annual ISI Competition in Natick Welcomes New Event

Despite the Nor’easter, over 215 competitors representing 21 arenas braved the storm to participate in the 47^th Annual ISI Competition hosted by FMC William Chase Arena.

For many, the two day event was an opportunity to showcase newly created programs that they’ll continue to polish for the ISI World Championship in July.

An exciting addition to the competition was the newly created FUN Event. Teams of skaters of all ages and levels – including instructors competed in a 4 person obstacle course. Felix was on hand to cheer the skaters on as they raced against the clock to meet the challenge of the set course. “Dream Team” members Sophie Habecker, Sophie Verna, Nicole Ruffin and Sienna Ruffin from Natick won the event setting a record breaking pace.

When asked about her favorite part of the course, 5 year old Sienna Ruffin said, “Sledding down the ice and being on a team with the big kids.”

Hosting an event of this size would not be possible without the help of many volunteers.  Aneliese Bouzan, a 9 year old member of the Jr. Youth Synchronized Skating Team from Natick was outstanding in her role as runner. Extremely energetic, Aneliese “had a blast” with the very important job of bringing scores from the judges to the accounting room. According to coach Robyn Arnold, “Aneliese had as much fun volunteering as she did skating with her synchro team. She asked if she could stay longer because she was having so much fun working!” A huge thank you goes to all the volunteers. Volunteerism is an important part of skating and directly contributes to a smooth run event.

Results

FMC William Chase won the Overall Team Points with FMC Cronin earning 3^rd Place Overall.  FMC Pirelli Veterans arena won the Team Percentage Trophy. Among the competitors were 11 teams representing FMC facilities. These included: Aleixo Arena, Buffone Arena, Collins Moylan Arena, Connery Arena, Cronin Arena, Driscoll Arena, Jim Roche Community Center, Navin Arena, Pirelli Veterans Arena, Raynham IcePlex and William Chase Arena.
