This Week in FMC Ice Sports – February 5-11, 2018
The first full week of February is a busy one across all FMC Ice Sports facilities with our themed public skate and several late-season hockey games.
Monthly Themed Public Skate – All rinks EXCEPT Porrazzo Rink and Fitzpatrick Arena
The themed public skate for February will take place this weekend at most FMC rinks. Come celebrate all things USA at this special public skate for a chance to win prizes and giveaways.

5th Annual Febrrruary Campfire Festival – Porrazzo Rink, East Boston
On Saturday, February 10, 2018, head over to Porrazzo Rink for the Campfire Festival from 4:40-8:40 p.m. The event will include skating, music, and of course roasting marshmallows. Admission is free of charge with skate rental costing $5.

College Hockey at FMC Rinks
The college hockey season is winding down and several teams calling FMC rinks home are in the hunt for the postseason.
UMass-Dartmouth will close out the home portion of its schedule this week with a pair of games against MASCAC foes. On Thursday, the Corsairs will play a makeup game against Plymouth State followed by senior night on Saturday against Westfield State. Both games will be played at Hetland Arena in New Bedford.
Fitchburg State also hosts a Saturday night game as Framingham State heads to Wallace Civic Center for a 5 p.m. puck drop.
Marquee Matchups of the Week
– (19) Natick vs (18) Needham Boys Varsity Hockey at William L Chase Arena
The Natick RedHawks take on Bay State Conference rival Needham in a late-season clash. The RedHawks and Rockets are among the best teams in Division 1 South, vying for a position in the Massachusetts Division 1A Super 8 Tournament – one of the most prestigious high school hockey tournaments in the nation.
Natick will host defensive juggernaut Needham on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 7:20 p.m.
– Cambridge vs Lowell Boys Varsity Hockey at Simoni Rink
The Cambridge R&L Falcons have already clinched a state tournament berth and now have a chance to win the Merrimack Valley/Dual County Division III League outright. Cambridge will host the Lowell Red Raiders this week in a battle between the league’s top-two teams. A powerful Falcons offense led by its core group of upperclassmen will counter against Lowell’s strong defense.
Cambridge and Lowell will face-off on Wednesday, Feburary 7, 2018 at 6 p.m.
New England Future Stars Corner
Mites Cross-Ice
Brand new this season, registration is NOW OPEN for the Mites Cross-Ice program coming summer 2018. The South Shore Sabercats, Boston Brahmas, and brand new Canton Crusaders will all carry Mites Cross-Ice programs this season.
There is a limited amount of only 60 spots per team, so register now while there’s still space. The program is designed to help Mite-level players develop with the help of experienced coaching and top competition.

Tryouts Begin NEXT WEEK!
It’s that time of year again! Tryouts for the 2018 New England Future Stars season begin next week with sessions in Plymouth (Armstrong Arena) for the South Shore Sabercats and Raynham (Raynham IcePlex) for the Raynham Raiders. Registration for tryouts will be available on site as well as online throughout the entirety of tryout season.
