2018 Summer Maintenance Projects

This summer FMC was busy with maintenance projects in a handful of our rinks!

Lynn

First, we replaced the dasher system as part of our capital improvement plan.  This included a full demo of the existing boards and glass, with the installation of an entirely new system from Becker Arena Products, Inc.  It was a slower paced project, as we take our time with these installations to ensure no bolt or screw is missed throughout the process.  This dasher install combined with the

freshly touched up slab paint resulted in a fantastic finished product.

Secondly, we replaced the storefront entrance to the facility.  The old one was dated and the time for replacement had come.  The new ADA compliant entry doors are much more appealing with clear anodized aluminum finishes, concealed continuous weather stripping, and kickplates.

Lastly, we are currently getting ready to wrap up our locker room makeover.  This project was started last year but paused until this summer to limit as much inconvenience to our customers as possible.  This makeover includes all fresh paint, new 4 x 4 interlocking flooring, new doors with closers and ADA handles, new stainless steel shower doors, as well as new tile and fixtures throughout the showers.

The parking lot lighting was our main project at Fitzpatrick Arena.  The old lighting was not efficient and displayed a poor quality of light.  All new LED heads were installed on the poles throughout the parking lot. While onsite, we also replaced the wall pack on the building to LED.  The difference in light output is amazing and we can only hope our customers enjoy driving into the facility for an evening event.

Fall River

Although not a planned project, we had a rather large repair to our low emissivity ceiling.  Unfortunately as time passes, pucks will take a strange bounce off a crossbar or a stick and end up hitting the ceiling, so unlike a wood roof decking, the product does become damaged over time. With the destruction beyond the point of patching, we ended up replacing a fair amount of the material. This product is an upgrade to the facility that FMC previously installed. In short, this product essentially reduces the amount of heat radiated from the ceiling to the ice which results in a better quality ice sheet in the end.  Having this repair completed is a huge relief off of our shoulders.  We hope the returning customers enjoy the “low –e” view again!

Realice

This summer we also got around to installing more Realice systems.  At the start of the summer, we only had Burlington and Natick systems installed.  We have added 5 more to that list by installing the units in Cambridge, Plymouth, New Bedford, Greenfield and Springfield.
