This Week in FMC Ice Sports – April 9-15, 2018

The FMC Ice Sports Spring I Season is hitting the home stretch, with summer hockey registration and Neon Nights winding down while Ice Allocation Meetings continue.

‘Neon Nights’ Public Skate – West Roxbury, Worcester, Plymouth

The popular ‘Neon Nights’ Public Skating continues on Fridays through the end of April at three locations. Stop by Buffone Arena in Worcester, Jim Roche Arena in West Roxbury, or Armstrong Arena in Plymouth this Friday night!

Bring your friends for a fun night of dancing and skating in the dark at our Friday night DJ public skate series. With today’s greatest hits on the playlist, we’ve already started the party, and we’ll continue all month long.

General admission is $5 per person and rental skates are available for an additional $5 on a first-come, first-served basis. Check with your local arena for specific times.

User Group Ice Allocation Meetings Begin

Current user groups and interested parties are invited to attend our ice allocation meeting for the 2018/19 season held at select FMC Ice Sports Arenas. Beginning on April 3, meetings will be held in the arena conference room or lobby to discuss the ice time upcoming season.

Summer Hockey Registration Winding Down – Burlington, Hopedale, Springfield

FMC Ice Sports will be hosting several summer hockey leagues across all open rinks this summer. Registration for all of those leagues is ongoing, with three getting close to winding down.

The Burlington and Blackstone Valley Adult Hockey Leagues begin play in mid-May, with team registration closing THIS FRIDAY, April 13. Registration is open to FULL TEAMS only, but interested individual players can join by calling 1-888-74-SKATE. Competitors must be age 18 or older.

The Blackstone Valley Adult League features a Wednesday recreational competition and a Thursday competitive league. Games will begin at either 7:30, 8:40, or 9:50 p.m. both nights with teams guaranteed one 60-minute game a week. Seasons will have 15 games, plus playoffs with cash prizes for the regular season and playoff champions.

FMC Ice Sports’ Burlington Adult Hockey League is set up into three competitive levels all playing on separate days. Tuesdays will be for Intermediate skaters, Wednesdays for advanced teams, and Thursdays for elite competition. There will be one 60-minute game a week with a 15-game season, plus playoffs.

For the first time, Smead Arena in Springfield will be hosting a High School Coaches League for all 2018-19 High School eligible players. The Spring league runs from April 22 through July 24 and will include a 10-game regular season plus playoffs. Games will be held on Sunday afternoons at either 3 or 4:10 p.m. and are two 22-minute periods. Opening weekend is slated for preseason player evaluation.

New England Future Stars Corner

Tryouts Close This Week!

Tryouts for the 2018 New England Future Stars season will come to a close this week, with makeup tryouts for four franchises early this week.

The Essex County Eels and Marlboro Thunder will hold tryouts for their 10U, 12U, and Boys 14U teams on Monday and Tuesday respectively. These sessions are the second tryouts for those specific levels. Last season, the Eels 10U team won the Silver Cup and the 12U team capture the Gold Cup in the franchise’s first year.

Also this week, the Boston Brahmas and North Shore Stingrays will hold tryouts for their Girls U14, Girls 16/19, and Boys Varsity teams. The Brahmas will hold these highly anticipated tryouts on Tuesday night. Boston won the Gold Cup at the Boys Varsity and Girls U14 levels last season and will look to repeat in 2018. The Stingrays will close the tryout season altogether on Wednesday.

Mites Cross-Ice Registration

Brand new this season, registration is NOW OPEN for the Mites Cross-Ice program coming summer 2018. The South Shore Sabercats, Boston Brahmas, and brand new Canton Crusaders will all carry Mites Cross-Ice programs this season.

There is a limited amount of only 60 spots per team, so register now while there’s still space. The program will help Mite-level players develop with the help of experienced coaching and top competition. Spots are filling up fast!
