Pickleball at Collins/Moylan Arena
Greenfield, MA
With the ice melted for the summer our dry floor is now being used for multiple indoor sports including, Pickleball. Bill Buck, the General Manager at Collins/Moylan Arena shared, “our first open Pickleball session was a big success! 36 players played on our 6 game courts and 2 practice courts from 6pm to 9pm on Wednesday evening May 29th. This open play, which each player must pre-register, will be available each Wednesday night throughout the summer.”
What is this sport so many are crazed about? According to Pickleheads.com “Pickleball is now the fastest-growing sport in America for the third year running. The sport, which is a cross between table tennis, badminton, and tennis, was invented by three vacationers on Bainbridge Island, near Seattle, in 1965. Pickleball is easy to learn how to play and can be enjoyed well into one’s later years, making it a popular sport among seniors. Add to that its popular “open play format“, allowing players to mix and match with dozens of others in a session, you’ve got a social and accessible sport that’s booming in popularity.”
We’d like to extend a special thank you to the AHL team, the Springfield Thunderbirds, for donating the pickleball nets.
