FMC News & Events

This Week in FMC Ice Sports – February 12-18, 2018

It’s one of the busiest months across all FMC Ice Sports facilities with the opening of New England Future Stars tryouts and several late-season hockey games.

DCR Universal Access Programs in East Boston and Brockton

The DCR will be hosting a pair of Adaptive Skating sessions this week! On Tuesday, February 13, Porrazzo Rink in East Boston will host Adaptive Skating and Games from 11:30 – 1:20 p.m. Activities include obstacle courses, a tower of blocks for building up and crashing down, races, colorful balls and pucks to shoot around, power chair games, and gently competitive hockey matches.

Asiaf Arena in Brockton will host an Assisted Public Skating session from 1:30 – 3:20 p.m. on Sunday, February 18. Ice sleds, skate walkers, helmets, ice grippers, and ice skates are available.

Admission and equipment are provided and free of cost at both events, however pre-registration is required.

‘Neon Nights’ DJ Public Skates in Plymouth and West Roxbury

Looking for something fun to do on Friday nights? Head to Armstrong Arena in Plymouth or Jim Roche Arena in West Roxbury for Neon Nights. This public skate features music from a DJ, flashing lights, and lots of skating fun!

The event is held in West Roxbury from 8-9:50 p.m. and in Plymouth from 8:30-10:20 p.m. Admission is $5 plus a $5 skate rental fee.

College Hockey in Fitchburg and Worcester

The college hockey season is winding down and several teams calling FMC rinks home are in the hunt for the postseason.

Fitchburg State continues a run of late-season home games with a Thursday night showdown with Salem State at Wallace Civic Center. The Falcons are aiming high, still in contention for a MASCAC Regular Season title. Their opponent, Salem State, has hovered around the .500 mark all year long and forced a 0-0 tie with Fitchburg in the last meeting back in January. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Assumption will look to end its regular season on a high note with a weekend series at home against Post University. Assumption beat Post on the road in December, 5-2. The Greyhounds are clinging to a top-2 spot in the Northeast-10 Conference and can potentially head into the postseason on the back of two wins. Friday’s game is slated for 5:35 p.m. with Saturday’s game scheduled for 6:05 p.m.

Marquee Matchups

– (12) Plymouth North vs (10) Canton Girls Hockey at Armstrong Arena, Plymouth

An cross-divisional clash between two non-league powerhouses gets the week started with a bang. The Canton Bulldogs are well on the way to clinching yet another Hockomock League title. Canton’s only loss came to Hingham – a team in the same league as Plymouth North. The Eagles, meanwhile, are hoping for a late-season push towards a top spot in the Division 1 tournament.

The teams square off on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 6:30 p.m.

– (8) St. Mary’s (Lynn) vs (7) Austin Prep Boys Hockey at Connery Rink, Lynn

First place in the Catholic Central Large conference will be on the line this week in Lynn when two league rivals square off at Connery Rink. Austin Prep is looking for some retribution after losing to St. Mary’s earlier this season. St. Mary’s, meanwhile, is simply looking to climb up the standings in search of a Super 8 tournament bid. Will history repeat itself or will Austin Prep move one step closer to a league title?

Puck drop is Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 6 p.m.
