Summer projects and improvements at our arenas

We’re making the most of this summer and making improvements to our arenas from installing new lighting to creating additional parking, and more! Read about some of the projects we’ve taken on, and what you can look forward to as we head into the main season.

The Blackstone Valley Iceplex in Hopedale has a brand new additional parking lot to accommodate a bigger crowd, and we seal-coated and re-lined the existing lot.

We’ve also re-painted the slab and added FMC’s first curling houses. The Blackstone Valley Curling Club has already been using the houses for their Summer Learn-to-Curl events!

Several rinks are getting serious snack bar renovations this summer, including Aleixo Arena in Taunton, Navin Rink in Marlboro, Gardner Veteran’s Arena, Driscoll Rink in Fall River, and Hetland Arena in New Bedford.

The Chelmsford Forum’s locker rooms are getting a facelift this summer, as are Connery Rink’s in Lynn, with refurbished benches, flooring, and a coat of Line X, while Asiaf Arena in Brockton is is having the existing ceiling replaced and a lighting setup in the hallway leading to the team rooms. Asiaf, Driscoll and Pirelli Veteran’s Arena in Franklin will get new flooring in their lobby.

A big deal for any rink, Connery Rink’s refrigeration system is being replaced and Asiaf’s system is being converted from R22 to ammonia, reducing its negative environment impact and the potential for safety issues.

Connery Rink’s shiny new compressor.

Safety is always our first priority, so we’ve installed a Knox Box at every rink in the FMC family, allowing first responders rapid access to the building in case of an emergency.

The Burlington Ice Palace already got a fresh coat of paint on its slab, and Simoni Rink in Cambridge will get a refresh next week. As the rinks get re-painted, lookup lines are added for the safety of hockey players, and FMC logos are added to center ice.

Several arenas are working hard on the outdoor landscaping and outer appearance of the building during these nice weather months as well. Collins/Moylan Arena in Greenfield gave the landscaping some TLC.

Summer is a busy time for us as we prepare and improve for the upcoming season and we’re excited for our patrons to come in and experience all of the new enhancements we’ve made!
