All skaters must take and pass a Learn to Skate class in order to progress to the classes listed on this page.
Ice Skating Essentials
Save $10 when you register online
For skaters who have mastered the elements in Pre Skating or Pre Hockey,
forward and backward stroking and crossovers, 3-turns and mohawks, advanced
stops, edges and more are just some of the challenging skills participants will
encounter. To promote a successful learning environment, class sizes will be
limited and skaters divided by ability where possible. Both ISI Alpha through
Delta and USFS Basic 3-8 skills will be introduced to prepare skaters who may
eventually pursue competitive endeavors. All skaters enrolled will be given an
ISI membership with registration.
8 Week Program
For skaters who have mastered the elements in Pre Skating or Pre Hockey

Skaters MUST pass a Learn to Skate course in order to take this program
For skaters who have mastered the elements in the
FMC Ice Skating Essentials program offered in Step 3:
Skill Building Classes, Figure Skating 101 classes
teach the mechanics of figure skating. Participants
learn the jumps, spins, gliding moves and edgework
taught in both ISI and USFS Freestyle levels. Skaters enrolled in Figure Skating 101 will receive
an ISI Membership with their registration.
Prior to Arriving
Please arrive 15-20 minutes prior to the class start time. Skaters should wear figure skating attire or
comfortable clothing that allows for movement and flexibility. Skaters should have their own skates. For
more information on purchasing skates or skating attire, please talk to your class instructor or skating
director.
For skaters who have mastered the skills in Skating Essentials
Practice Makes Perfect! and several of our facilities offer programs to help you
practice your skating skills. Programs are listed below along with a link to
find locations. Please note schedules and fees are subject to change without
notice and practice sessions may be limited due to enrollment.
Class Practice Ice
Class Practice Ice is ice time set aside specifically for skaters that are
currently enrolled in an FMC program. This supplemental practice time is open to
skaters of all ages and abilities and is exclusive to current class customers.
Participants sign up for Class Practice Ice just like a class. Skaters who need
a little extra help or who are thinking about performing or competing may want
to consider hiring an instructor to give private instruction on Class Practice
Ice. Only FMC Ice Sports staff instructors with permission from their Skating
Directors are allowed to teach on Class Practice Ice.
Walk-Ons - $7 / 40 Minutes
Skaters who wish to walk on to Freestyle Practice Ice must provide their own ISI membership and present their ISI membership card to the Freestyle Monitor. Memberships can be purchased
online at www.skateisi.org. Membership forms may also be obtained at the rink and will be mailed to the ISI
office upon request.
Freestyle Practice Ice is ice time set aside specifically for skaters to
practice their skills. Sessions are 40 minutes long. Many skaters hire
instructors to give private instruction on Freestyle Practice Ice. Instructors
who wish to teach on FMC Ice Sports Freestyle Practice Ice must sign an
agreement and provide a copy of their liability insurance certificate, prior to
teaching.
Prior to Skating
Skaters who wish to use FMC Ice Sports Freestyle Practice Ice need to be
members of the Ice Skating Institute (ISI). Participants of FMC Skating
Essentials classes receive a free ISI membership with their class participation.
In addition, skaters who pre-register for Freestyle Practice Ice will
also receive a free ISI membership.
Walk-Ons - $14 / 40 Minutes, $16 / 50 Minutes*
Skaters who wish to walk on to Freestyle Practice Ice must provide their own ISI membership and present their ISI membership card to the Freestyle Monitor. Memberships can be purchased
online at www.skateisi.org. Membership forms may also be obtained at the rink and will be mailed to the ISI
office upon request.
Skaters often wish to receive one-on-one instruction in addition to classes
to assist their skating endeavors and challenges. These lessons are called,
"Private Lessons" and become more necessary as skaters advance through skating
levels. Private lessons are generally managed directly with instructors, but the
Skating Directors can assist in helping you choose the right instructor for you.

Performance Essentials

Cost for an 8 week season: $149.00
For skaters looking to experience the artistic side of figure skating, this
competition and performance based course offers 20 minutes of skill-based
exercises, and 20 minutes of program development work. Each skater will work
with an instructor to put together a program for local competition and/or
exhibition. Class includes instruction on warming up, performance technique,
rules of competition, and skating etiquette. Prerequisite: Skaters who are
currently enrolled in the Step 3: Ice Skating Essentials program or have
instructor permission.

Off-Ice Fitness Class

Smead Arena - Springfield
Cost for an 8 week season: $72.00
Cost for a Walk-in: $10.00
Maintaining
proper fitness off the ice is crucial to a skater's success on the ice. This
class will use simple strengthening equipment and body weight exercises to
increase strength in the core, arms, and legs, as well as improve balance and
posture. This training will benefit the skater's presentation, jumping power,
movement patterns, and spins. Students must wear sneakers. A towel and exercise
mat is recommended.

Silver City Skaters Synchronized Skating Team

Do you love to skate and be part of a team? Join the Silver City Skaters Synchronized Skating Team! Come try out one of the fastest growing sports in skating! Learn teamwork and synchronized skating skills through the five basic elements: circles, blocks, lines, wheels, and intersections while skating connected. We will also go over moves and edges, and elements of a synchronized skating program. No synchronized skating experience required. Spotlight Class

Develop your creativity and skating personality by exploring expression and
choreography through music. Each week, students will learn how to articulate and
interpret music in order to create their own movement patterns for various
themes. This class offers a fun and creative way to bridge the gap between group
lessons and recreational or competitive skating.

Figure Skating Summer Camp

The FMC Ice Sports Summer Figure Skating Camp at the William L. Chase Arena offers 4 hours of on-ice instruction, as well as 1 hour of off-ice training per day. Our highly experienced team will provide every skater the unique opportunity to experience various skating disciplines while focusing on the overall development of the skater.

Skaters with a desire to pursue highly competitive skating endeavors and make a strong and disciplined commitment to the sport of figure skating are considered to have achieved the elite skating level. Elite skating endeavors are largely pursued through private instruction and United States Figure Skating Clubs.

FMC Ice Sports presents the 2012 Summer Skating Exhibition at the Cronin
Arena in Revere. This year's theme is "Summer Fun" and all skaters will be
performing to summer themed music. In addition to themed solo and group numbers,
all skaters, friends and family will be invited to participate in the Family
Skate following the exhibition. Cake and refreshments will be provided as well.
