Ice Skating

At FMC, we hope that skating becomes a part of your life and that it provides you with great exercise, an opportunity to make new friends and a positive environment to learn life lessons. In the FMC Ice Sports Skating program, you can expect to progress naturally and comfortably and we strive to provide you with choices and options that help make your skating enjoyable with any level of commitment.

Advancement

For the benefit of all participants, the level system is highly recommended and skaters must demonstrate to staff mastery of the skills in each level before being advanced. Progress reports will be given to all skaters at the end of each session. Evaluation procedures are implemented as needed and on an individual basis. Skaters transferring from other skate schools will be evaluated by Skate School staff for proper level placement.

Skating Foundations
classes focus on more advanced and efficient ways of moving on the ice. Skills learned in these levels are important for all skaters. Skaters may find that additional practice is beneficial for these levels.

Blade Skills will teach skaters how to manipulate their blades and edges in Blade Skills classes. Turning from forward to backward and vice versa, advanced stopping and edgework are just some of the skills skaters will learn. Due to the increased difficulty of Blade Skills, additional practice is recommended.

Beginner Freestyle will put skaters mastery of edges and movement to work in learning the beginning mechanics of figure skating jumps, spins and gliding moves. Beginner Freestyle prepares skaters for success in Figure Skating classes.

Figure Skating 101 Class for skaters who have mastered the elements in Beginner Freestyle. Emphasis on spins, jumps, advanced gliding moves and edgework. (ISI Freestyle 1 and higher)

Practice Makes Perfect! and several of our facilities offer programs to help you practice your skating skills. Programs are listed below along with a link to find locations.
